I got back from my LightSky interview in Indiana… what a great place. It is truly nerd heaven. The guys that run the place are really cool and actually had a good interview process. They are very much polo shirt and khaki kind’ve guys, which makes the work environment nice and relaxed. We discussed my abilities and my skills and they roleplayed out a few case studies that let them get a feel for my problem solving skills. They seemed to increase in complexity, the last one they gave was quite tricky and they were all slightly out of my comfort area. I think I still answered them pretty well.
Then I got to show off my Masters Project. I did a full demo, which was a great test run for my board presentations next week. They were pretty impressed that I slapped all of it together myself in six months. They showed me their system to do a similar function. It took them about a year to develop and was truly kickass. Whoever does their stylesheeting and layouts are quite talented.
It came down to this. They are going to get back with me within two weeks, possibly as early as one week. Both of the guys I spent the afternoon with were “positively impressed.” I hope this bodes well for my chances that the offer will make mouths happy.
Goshen is a nice town. It has a similar downtown area to Macomb, with a square and a large courthouse. It has several strip malls and shopping centers… seemed a little more like Bloomington in that regard. Plenty of restaurants, and the homes that we saw via the realtor’s general listing were inexpensive for very nice homes. No Shotokan that I could find, but the LightSky office has an attached gym, showers, and weight room. On the job Empi anyone?
The rest office itself is a big open area cadre of computers on the upstairs level of a smallish building, imagine a three store strip mall or something about that size. There was an island in the middle of the office with about eight machines, eight more along each of the side walls. Big windows, and a large conference room in the middle. There were a few small offices along the back of the building for the marketing folk, and the partners in the company work right alongside the rest. It all had a somewhat communal nerd hive feeling to it. LightSky shares this building with two other technology oriented companies, neither of which seemed as cool as LightSky.
More information as it develops, until then it’s back to the Masters Project documentation!
