Well, I am still waiting for a call from Cat. I’m betting the woman that was handling all of this process for me is wading out from behind two weeks of backlogged work from when she went on vacation, I’ll wager I’m in there somewhere.
Yesterday I got an email from State Farm. Turns out my contact person has heard that a manager he was talking to has contacted HR about getting an interview set up for me over there. This is a Good Thing. More on that as I hear it.
Last night
After that, we went to Denny’s and talked for a few hours until it was time for Boyle to head back to Missouri. He appears to be really rocking the house with his weightlifting and a few other areas of extreme motivation in his life right now. So we’re all pretty proud of him.
I think I’m going to pool some money and add a Gigantic Hard Drive and a TV Tuner card to my Linux box in an effort to make that thing into a MythTV personal video recorder (think TiVo, for nerds). Those two components that I need are probably going to cost me roughly the same as the smallish TiVo unit, but I will not have to pay for monthly subscriptions and I will get more features with the MythTV box. Plus it’ll make a nice project so I don’t go insane.
I can’t imagine I would attempt such a project if I didn’t have a Linux box sitting here doing virtually nothing. I keep it up to date, it’s got an Athlon 2200 (detects as a 1800+ in the BIOS) processor and 512 M of SDRAM, so it can handle pretty high end functionality based on the MythTV specs that are provided. That makes the only upgrades the hard drive and TV Tuner card, and maybe a DVD burner if I want to archive my favorite shows to DVD.
I will update more on that after I have the money to pursue such a thing.
