Last night before Karate I was lucky enough to get my Linux machine displaying through my TV. Unfortunately, something weird is happening with the drivers and they don’t seem to be loading/unloading properly.
Example: I got the thing running through my TV finally. The display wasn’t great, but I wasn’t expecting miracles when displaying X through an old TV. For some reason, the driver modules were still acting up, I couldn’t change channels with the remote even though the menus were acting properly. The information that usually displays for the channel and program information wasn’t coming up.
After Karate, I decided to take the thing down to barebones again so I could install just KDE and the necessary packages. When I went to upgrade my system and install the software needed to make this thing a PVR, it went haywire complaining that stuff was conflicting.
I am basically back at square one now, however I am happy to report that the process is going MUCH faster since I’ve been through it once before. I’m afraid I’m going to have to move the TV back into the living room because Tasha’s about ready to slay me dead for keeping her TV from her for a week. I’ll get it there, it’s just going to take some more time. I bought a cable splitter last night, that is DEFINITELY going to help.
