Last night we went to the first ballroom dancing lessons that I have witnessed since the one day session we had in High School. I went in feeling completely overwhelmed, and left feeling less than completely overwhelmed.
Turns out Tasha and I have somewhat good feel for this type of thing, she could draw off of previous experiences from High School dance whereas I suck a gigantic staff at anything requiring rhythm.
All in all, I felt like I did pretty well except for the fact that I’d just forget what I was trying to do and started improvising the routine and since Tasha and I are new to this she had no idea what I wanted her to do. This caused much confusion and frustration, but eventually we started to work it out. I was trying to keep far too much Karate into it; my hips and shoulders hadn’t really moved opposite of each other quite like that before. Also, I would take steps that were too big for Tasha’s legs so she’d get all out of whack.
In the end, though, we were laughing and having fun. That is the important part and we look forward to going again in weeks to come. Maybe we’ll even practice a little in the meantime. w00t!
