Karate last night was yet another perfect example of Sensei Brewer’s slow burn workouts. After obscenely long and asinine warmups lead by our best nidan friend (they actually had to be interrupted by Sensei Brewer), we were led through a workout geared toward getting power from your hips.

The second class we were treated to some advanced basics and partner drills… thanks to the insane sparring regiment we’ve had lately I was able to maintain a good workout without having the death headaches or whiteouts that sometimes come with sparring drills. I did have the luck of being placed across from Elizabeth-san… she surprised me a little bit with her willingness to lay a punch in there, but I often wonder what she’d be able to do if she put forth an ounce of effort.

My resident nidan coworker, Commandant Reekydrawers, has said that he will take the colored belt children and give them spirit training tomorrow night since both head instructors will be away with family or work obligations. He said he will likely elect Garls-san to take the white belt children and leave the colored belts to the remaining black belts. This will lead to some controlled chaos and general good times for all. I’m planning something along the lines of belt-ranked kata groups with partner application. Combine this with whatever horrors
