Tonight was a doosey. We all knew it was going to be bad when Sensei called
We did sets of basics, followed by bouts of sado-masochism. Exercises of note: balancing on your elbows and toes, a la pushups. I don’t know why this was so hard, but I could feel my body dying… the only part it was really tough on was my lower back. It felt like my spine was trying to split in two. Back and side situps… the back ones weren’t bad at all, but my side stabilizing muscles are nonexistant.
The second class we got to go through several black belt katas at about half-speed. It was really refreshing to get to do some of the ones we don’t normally get to, I was surprised at how much of the interior of the katas I remembered once I got rolling. It’s almost relaxing to do kata that way, I hope it becomes more than just an occassional thing.
We did some sparring, where I was messing with timing and distance tonight. I stopped my backward motion and jammed Odewaldt once, and he instructed me to do that to Dublair-san. I did, and Dublair rang two or three shots off my face before he realized that I was no longer safely outside his flailing range. It hurt a little bit, but kicked in my crazy chihuahua enzymes and I really enjoyed the rest of the sparring. Good Lord I love sparring. 🙂
