Yesterday was a real treat. I took a half-day off in the afternoon to wait for the water guy and the cable guy. The water guy showed up at about 2:30 and took about ten minutes to do his thing.
The cable guy, on the other hand, showed up about 3:45 and stayed for an hour and a half. Apparently the fittings were all rusted on our current cabling, so he had to refit the ends of the cables. Since we have a finished basement and no central access point to the cables within the house, we’re stuck with the hookups as they stand now.
So I resigned myself to having to run cables under the carpet. I set up my MythTV so I could record television again (ahh, so nice) and hooked up the cable box in the upstairs bedroom. I drug the computer downstairs so I could activate my internet connection, and then drug it back upstairs so it would be in the appropriate room.
Then I went and had dinner with my parents. Tasha came home, so we decided to hit Wal-Mart so I could grab that network card. We got some groceries, and then headed back. Network card installation went very well, however I forgot that I set up WEP Encryption on my router so I was asked for the 40 random bit code. Crap.
So I drug my computer BACK downstairs so I could plug it into the router to configure it, then back upstairs once it was apparent that the wireless signal was indeed functioning.
The trip to Wal-Mart also provided an interesting idea… we were walking down the vacuum aisle and we saw the carpet shampooer brand of carpet cleaners. They ran nearly exactly what it would cost to have Stanley Steemer come to clean the carpets one time, and we’d have the thing to do any time we like. I think this would be a wise decision, but we elected to think about it a little first.
