By the time I had arrived at class last night, I had decided that if I was granted authority to lead warm-ups I would do a little more strengthening than normal. Sensei Hartman told me I could lead warm-ups, so I treated everyone to two sets of push-ups and 110 crunches. (For the record, yes, I am sore this morning.)
As I was getting finished, Sensei told me that “I was doing such a good job I could have the lower ranks.” So I took them over and lead them through a fairly rigorous workout of basics in stance. I decided to focus on flow of consciousness with the techniques, taking them logically through a few combinations by building them up by their component pieces. I started with just reverse punch, and then after awhile built it up to jab/reverse punch. From there I had the higher ranks add front kick after the reverse punch. This was nearly too much for the lower ranks, so I decided to pull back a little and take them through some three count front kick. I had the higher ranks try three count hook kick, just for a little change of pace.
About this time, Sensei Hartman suggests that squat kicks are fun. This is something I also agreed with, so we did quite a few before it was time to be finished. I *think* I had the higher ranks try it with round kick, but I can’t remember if we got to it or I just wanted to.
I know this was likely an attempt to make me feel better after yesterday’s tirade and I greatly appreciated it. In the end it did make me feel much better, even though it won’t solve the problems that exist at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club. I even got a decent workout out of it myself, so I’m happy. Thanks, Sensei.
