On Sunday last week, I was casually cleaning my glasses and the thin metal that holds the frameless lenses together broke very near to where the bridge attaches to the lens. The metal is so thin there is no hope of gluing or taping them back together (NERD).
Luckily, I had an eye exam the week before and I was told that my glasses would be ready on January 4th. Now, mind you, this is a Wal-Mart Eye Center, so you’ve gotta take what they say with a grain of salt, but two weeks for my glasses was fine.
I’ve been living through life in the trial pair of contacts that they give you to test out while you wait for them to finish your glasses. They’ve worked out pretty well, but I’m stuck living through my mangled half-glasses in the interim.
So last night it was snowy and icy, and Tasha really doesn’t like that I’m without glasses. “Call them up and see when they close,” she says. I do so, and they’re closing at 7 pm. Great, we have just enough time to get out there.
The roads weren’t too bad on the way there. When we arrived, I went back there and the girl says that my glasses are in, but the lab technician or the manager needed to check them in and they had gone home for the day. This is a full DAY AND A HALF later than they should’ve been ready. I asked if anything else could be done, because I’m stuck with broken glasses and we made a special trip out in the dangerous weather. Nope, nothing could be done because neither of the people that were there know how to do this particular task.
I finally resigned myself to this and left, but you bet the manager is going to get an earful when I go to pick up my glasses this weekend. But then again, what should I expect from Wal-Mart?
Also, an aside: I have no idea where this subject came from… it’s not really relevant, but it’s funny. So there.
