Today’s workout was generally crappy. I felt like mud during the first half of the Shodan test and confused during most of the Nidan test. I found that my sparring guard was mostly all wrong, which is making for some complications when I try to do my Nidan test combinations.
I keep my guard too far out, which is making wasted motion along with the illusion that I’m closer than I am, which is usually good in sparring. Doing this, however, renders my body much farther away than it appears, which makes for reaching, lunging, and otherwise bad body movement. This also makes a problem when I try to gain distance on my Nidan test combinations since I always pump my guard before I move in.
This is bad, and I aim to fix it by April.
It didn’t help matters very much that I’ve been nursing some retarded stabbing pain in the very top of my shoulder since Thursday night. I don’t know what caused it, but I want it to stop. So I’m going to take it easy tonight and tomorrow and hope that it’s healed for Monday’s workout.
