I would love to say that I felt like training and my hair was on fire to work out last night, but unfortunately this was not the case. I got off of work late, mostly because I get dragged into conversations with my new team lead. He’s a great guy, but he’s a talker. Even worse, he’s got interesting stories so I don’t want to duck out.
I got home briefly about 5:35 pm and had barely enough time to let the dog out and take a dump before heading out to the Mapleton dojo. Luckily, the workout started about 6:15 pm since
The first workout consisted of a sparring drill focused on teaching the lower ranks timing. I got across from Lexi-san, who is naturally quite talented. She had decent timing until we started throwing in the punches to break the timing, at what time she started flinging arms like most other yellow belts. I showed her a few things to fix this, and she was hitting me quite hard by the end of things.
The second class consisted of Kata Light, which will be the focus of several Super Bowl commercials this year. We went through all the Heian and black belt katas and I’m finally starting to feel worth in doing this relaxation training like we have been. I made it through the entire class and I was almost energized by the end, keeping in mind that we did several Kanku Dais (the longest kata in our style). I was pleased with the results, but I was ready to go home when class was over.
From here on out, I will be coordinating my nights off training with Tasha’s night off work so we can see each other for more than an hour a day. If anyone has any problems with this, we can spar about it later.
