Monday night McCabe-san and I were tapped to teach the Mapleton club. We did some simple basics in order to get warmed up and followed that up with some 3 time attack drills and then some offensive-defensive sparring drills like what we have to do for Nidan. Everyone seemed to have a pretty good time.
We were being extra careful to ensure everyone’s safety and I had to get after a few people for continuing to go after they were told to stop. The last thing Mike and I wanted was for someone to end up with a black eye during our sparring class.
I accidentally inserted foot into mouth when I got my negatives messed up describing what would happen if Mike was attacking me and I had a hard time blocking him. I accidentally said “this is usually the case” instead of “this isn’t usually the case” and realized that I had just really burned him in front of the class. I apologized a few times because slamming Mike is about the last thing I really wanted to do, but I still felt pretty bad about it.
Luckily, he got some retribution during the advanced class so I think we’re even. Erbe-san was foaming at the mouth to get the chance to spar me, and I found out why in very short order… it turns out he has found the keys on how to utterly destroy me during sparring: get right on top of me and proceed to stick there until I die. The fact that I would’ve been pasting him in the face if we were making contact means nothing when you can actually do no damage. Also, when one is as stocky as Erbe-san, it’s hard to make significant contact that actually slows him down to the body.
Tasha says I need to figure out how to do a double move action to get away from him, and she is probably right. However, when the train’s coming it’s hard to get out of the way. I may need some advice from
