I was feeling out of sorts before heading into the dojo today. I was tired, kind’ve floaty headed, and generally just out to lunch. I got to class a few minutes late, but
I did some warmups and then lead the class through some simple basics repetition. This usually makes me feel better, but this time it just ended up making me feel hot all over without too much of the adrenaline kick that I usually get from training.
I passed class off to Sensei Brewer very unceremoniously, since I was sure he’d have a better go at it than I would at this point. He did, and I got a pretty good workout and started to feel slightly better as time went on.
In between classes I got some water, and then it was back to the dojo to do some kata. They didn’t feel great, so I stopped after a couple and went to chat with

The second class was kata central. We did a few of the Heian kata to warm up and then did the black belt katas that Erbe and I were working on for the test. Mine felt labored and I could tell I wasn’t locking properly. I struggled with simple principles that I knew I was doing wrong, but still I couldn’t get right. I was lamenting this fact in between kata, and
Well what do you know. I’m finally getting nervous, it’s about time. I just hope I get this all worked out in the next few weeks so I can go down there and pass this thing. More diligent training… I just have to tell myself what Sensei said in his article: if you think, you die.
