My MythTV died this afternoon too! I thought I smelled the smell of burning silicon when I came home this afternoon, and after I heard that the Pope had died I went downstairs to watch footage on the MythTV and found static.
I hit the power button to restart it and the thing was dead. GREAT, I thought, I just burned another power supply. Not so lucky. I swapped the power supply and I noticed the small amber light shining on the motherboard. Good, I thought, here we go.
*click of power button*
*spark and hiss*
*whiff of ozone*
So I disconnect the power supply and asses the damage in the dim lights of my living room. I decide to take a few action shots to show the extent of the damage.
So I now have a new quiet name brand power supply, ASUS motherboard, and 512 MB SDRAM stick coming. I’m hedging my bets now that the processor and other cards are OK, if they’re not I’m going to cry. I also picked up a $12 PCI to USB2.0 card so I can get better throughput for my USB devices.
Arg.
