Last night I decided to go to Mapleton to get in an extra workout this week. I had originally planned to take Tuesday and Wednesday night off this week, but with recent events being as they are I figured it would be wise to go to class tonight.
Class was extremely small last night, probably no more than 10 people for the beginner class. Walker-san was the highest rank after me, that’s how small the class was. I lead warmups and I decided to reiterate my notion towards backwards things and did tricep pushups and dorsal rises again.
I noticed halfway through the warmups that Sensei Hartman was organizing chairs along the side of the room. I knew this meant trouble. We ended up doing more tricep pushups, but this time by balancing on the edge of the heaters and with our feet in the seat of the chair. We did three sets of these, followed by a set of inclined pushups with our hands in the seats of two chairs. The pushup actually put your body below your arms and my pecs sure are complaining today!
He mixed in some basics in order not to kill us. We did a few chair related partner drills that were fun and different, and that rounded out the first class.
In between classes, Sensei and I had a pretty good discussion about recent events. I think we’re all on the same page, its just going to be a trick of making sure that everyone else is too.
Second class was comprised of Taikyoku Shodan, Heian Sandan, and some freestyle 3-5 time attack. Jesse-san and Kathy-san were the only ones that stayed behind for the second class, so we took the opportunity to have some fun with them. In the end it was a fun, relaxing workout. Just what I needed after last week.
