I have finally decided to go in tomorrow night and get my hand looked at. It has been bothering me in varying amounts for several weeks and I just plain want to know if I’ve got something messed up in there.
Normally I wouild just give this sort of thing all the time it needed to heal, however in this case both spots are still giving me the “aah, shit” shooting pain when I do something they don’t like and I’ve noticed that my grip strength is somewhat degraded (I almost dropped a few cans of Diet Coke, none of you get any sick thoughts, now!)
I have also noticed that a few common things that I am required to do during the course of the day irritate it… my cousin-in-law has a pretty strong handshaking grip and he about caused me to wet my pants at a Fathers Day function last week.
I’ve tried to ignore it and be the tough guy, but my Dad made a good point… I have medical benefits for a reason, and the least I can do is spend the hour it will take them to x-ray it and pay $12 to be sure that I don’t have any damage that can be somehow prevented. The only time that these injuries impede my normal training is when I accidentally collide fists with someone sparring (which is the way I injured the spot on the edge of my hand the first time) or when I put constant pressure on my index finger joint (like knuckle pushups).
So what I’m saying here is if I don’t make it to practice tomorrow night it is because the x-ray technicians are slow.
