This workout was an interesting one. Sensei approached Erbe, Dukes, and myself before class and asked us to teach the kids. Sounded like fun to me. Mike and I were able to get a little free sparring in before class, it was a load of fun. We went at a nice pace to get to try different things out without annihiliating each other.
We did some warming up in the first class before we broke off to teach the kids. We elected Erbe to take the new white belt girl, and Dukes let me take the rest of the kids. I decided to do spirit training that was intense, but not really for endurance. They did a good job, the Mullins boys were really tearing it up. At one point Dukes and I made the rounds letting the kids whap us in the stomachs, and Alex-san’s punches were too slow. He was tensing before he punched. I told him if he left that much time between shots I would whack him in the head. So I did… lightly. Several times. I thumped him a little bit on the last one and I saw the lights go on, at what point he starting WAILING on my stomach, enough for me to notice. I was satisfied, praised him, and moved on. By the end we had the whole class doing front kick, stepping down into reverse punch. Even the white and yellow belts. I consider the class a success.
Anthony is doing some weird stuff with half-rotating his punches… this will not stand for a brown belt under my watch. So we fixed him. He knows he’s doing it, but says he can’t help it. I told him just to be mindful of it and that it would fix itself with time. That kid is a trooper, he’ll figure it out. I’ve decided that he’s the technician of the family and his brother gets the fire in his belly when provoked. Two sides of the same coin, pretty interesting to watch. Their bloodline is strong with the Force.
The second class earned a reprisal of Gojyushiho Sho, which I am growing to really like. We also got to do some three to five time sparring, which is becoming a staple of our training lately and I have been enjoying it. Time to fall over now, more later.
