This week’s series of workouts revolved around several things: sparring, Sochin, and Hangetsu. On Tuesday we were all feeling pretty upbeat so we decided to spar. First with Matt between classes, and then with McCabe. I got some of the biggest, most interesting bruises I’ve had for awhile from McCabe. We also did a REALLY sweet iuchi where I barely touched his chin as he barely touched my chest with lunge punches. It was neat, and we both knew it.
Thursday was more of the same, with the noteable addition of Sochin and Hangetsu. That burning sensation that climbs into your upper thighs when working on Sochin is unique and long lasting. After working on Sochin for half of the second class, Hangetsu always feels awkward. My hips always feel rather floaty in that stance, like they never really know what direction to be pointed. Hopefully in time I will stop feeling like a retarded duck when I’m trying to do that kata.
