Last night after I got back from Karate, I elected to do the first pulls off of my new Training Remote molds. I decided to do this on the back porch, which in the end was a bad idea.
I learned some lessons from this: my deck is not in the least bit level, heat in excess of 80 degrees makes the resin kick (start to set up) too quickly, and I need some work on my fine motor skills.
The polyurethane resin comes in two parts, A and B. I have had this batch of resin for quite awhile, and it seems that a bit of the A part had gotten into the cap and set up. This made it virtually impossible to remove the cap. I tried my hands, a towel, and even one of those rubber grippy doodads that you use to get pickle jars open and nothing worked so I cut a notch in the top of the bottle to pour out the resin. It succeeds, however it makes a pretty fair sized mess now. I’m going to go out in search of some large ketchup and mustard bottles to transfer the different mixes to.
I did end up with a few good parts out of the whole exercise, however it is obvious to me that I need to work on my technique for the two part molds a bit before great success is achieved. I think I’m going to do my next batch indoors on a level surface and see if that doesn’t make matters better. I do think that this set of molds is superior to my others that I have tried in the past. Its just going to take some work to get this whole thing completed. 🙂
