Woooohooooooo!

Today I completed a longstanding transaction… my good buddy from work came over and delivered the Klipsch Pro Media Ultra 5.1 speakers that her boyfriend so graciously cut me a deal on. Research has told me that these speakers are the bees knees in PC based home theatre setups, so much so that the Ultimate Linux Box this year cites them as the best around.

The box these things come in is HUGE. It weighs 52.5 lbs, as indicated on the back of the box. I’m just glad that Brian is a brawny dude, or else these things would’ve stayed where they were. He had won them in some sort of contest and being an Audio Man as he is his setup made these things unnecessary, so he let me have ’em for $200. What a great guy, he may get a Christmas card or something this year.

The hunt is now on for an equivalent sound card that can handle the awesomeness of these things for my Linux box. I’m thinking one of the higher end Sound Blaster cards should do the trick, which is great because they’re natively supported by ALSA so they will work out of the box.
