This Saturday’s workout was dominated by sparring combinations in a circle followed by eight station circuit training.
Circuit One was a elastic cord with a loop for your foot suspended from the ceiling. The point was to maximize flexibility in your kicking leg and strengthen your snapback at the same time. I elected to use side kick, but the drill could also be done with roundhouse kick. Circuit Two was an elastic cord anchored to the door. Same drill, only with 10 knees up followed by 10 front kicks on either leg. Circuit Three was roundhouse kicking a pad, alternating legs. Circuit Four was holding the pads for Circuit Three. Circuit Five was backfist strike followed by roundhouse punch, alternating sides. Circuit Six was holding the pad for Circuit Five. Circuit Seven was your kata repeatedly using 5 lb handweights. Circuit Eight was a mixed back of abdominal exercises that you had to subject yourself to.
Lets just say that tired was an incredible understatement by the time 10 am rolled around. I enjoy training this way because it toughens you up in new and unusual ways, however its really hard to go in knowing that you’re going to have to stare circuits in the face. I’m told this is going to be a staple for the next few months, I suppose its going to go far in the weeding out process. 🙂
