Survival Kits?

In light of the recent events in New Orleans, several of the forums that I frequent (replica props, star wars, linux nerds) have been discussing what needs to go into a good survival kit. This got me considering the fact that I don’t really have one, and I was wondering if anyone else out there has one of these put together.

Several folks on these boards recommended a fixed blade knife, MREs, supply of water, personal hygiene products, basic tools. Some went so far as to have flare guns, handguns, and crank radios.

So lets hear it! What, if anything, do you have in your survival kit?
