Well, the plan for tonight was as follows: leave work slightly later than normal, which was accomplished. Eat dinner with Tasha before she left for Gibson City, also accomplished. Relax for a little bit by watching some TV, partially accomplished. Connect back into work and spend some additional time working on the billing project that is coming due very soon: FAILED.
During the relaxing while watching some TV phase, Satheesh called me up. “I can’t connect to Z1PI,” he says. “I’ll check it out,” I reply. I do so. Yep, Z1PI’s connection is farked. I call Ajay. It appears that a Shark Storage failure has completely destroyed our world for awhile. We’re going on four hours now, one of which I spent on the Global IT bridge listening to managers attempt to find someone to blame while the analysts scurry around waiting for IBM to troubleshoot the servers.
In the meantime, a realization: whenever I intend to get work done from home, something happens to dissuade me. In this case, the whole system exploded. I can’t work if I wanted to right now, and I sacked a night of karate in order to get some more completed on this billing project.
Since my brain is in “work mode”, I can’t seem relax either. It’s 12:15 am right now, and I’m not remotely tired because I have this unfulfilled desire to accomplish something tonight. Shark Storage is still down “with no estimated time to resolution.”
I know if its still down in the morning someone will be in serious shit and I will still not be able to accomplish anything. I hate waiting around on things, and in cases like this I’m in the wrong profession if that bothers me.
Argh.
