I called Best Buy to receive a status report on my iPod, which was suffering from low battery life. The kid behind the counter told me it would be around two weeks from when they received it. I left my iPod with them on 9/23.
I called the guy today as I drove home from work to find out what was going on. Their system was down, could I call back in a half hour. Sure. I went to Karate and called back when I got home. The guy said that the last update was made on 10/5 and just shows the thing as “queued” which was explained to me as the first state the item gets into as it gets put in front of a technician. He said the only way to get an update on this was to call them and find out, but since they keep 9-5 hours it would have to be done tomorrow.
I asked if there was an ETA in the ticket anywhere and he said that the system estimates a target date based on when it arrived, and it said 10/21. But it usually overestimates. I told him that I wanted him to call and ask for an update tomorrow and left my number. I explained to him (calmly) that it had been two weeks already, and that this was getting somewhat ridiculous for a battery replacement.
We will see what the update brings, but I’m pretty pissed. Its been two weeks already since I’ve been without my iPod. I paid for the extra warranty, they should’ve told me it could take a month to actually make a claim on this thing when I bought it. I might’ve saved the $15 and just rolled my dice at this rate.
They get the benefit of the doubt until tomorrow. They’d better come up with something pretty convincing like “its in the mail back to your store” or else I’m going to start getting people fired.
