Matt and I arrived around 8:30 today, mostly because of a fairly in-depth conversation we were having about external to karate issues. We elected that the best course of action to safeguard my hearing would be to do kata today, so kata is what we did.
After some quick warmups, we did the basic four black belt kata, followed by Nijyushiho, Gankaku, Hangetsu, and Jitte. Matt remembered seeing some guys at the tournament that did Nijyushiho back to back and it looked neat so we tried that. It was neat. Very neat.
I hope that at the next demo we’re able to perform that kata for the crowd, because apart from looking super cool it allows everyone to see both halves of the kata (forward and backward).
Matt and I futzed around with a little more kata before calling it a day. It was a good workout, but I really miss sparring already. Its going to be a long two weeks. 😛
Good news though… I’m only six workouts from my after-Nidan goal of an average of three dojo workouts a week for an entire year. I should make it handily… its good to have challenging goals.
