Tonight was a continuation of test preparation for our students. The black belts helped correct for the first class and part of the second. I elected to help refine Hickman and Dobbleaire’s kata a bit, they’re coming along nicely on that front.
McCabe-san and I were discussing something off and on during the first session… it seems that across the board tonight there was a general lack of commitment to throwing techniques. I understand that everyone is worried about getting hurt before their test, however the energy level was just low tonight. The killer instinct that should be taking over so close to an exam didn’t seem to exist for most people tonight. There was a handful of people that had glimmers of it… but far too few.
I threw caution to the wind and decided to do the 3-5 time and slow sparring at the end of the class. I figured if Saturday’s workout was OK so was this. I had a good time and got to work on the concept of keeping my center tight and taking a shot to get the distance to give one. It was working pretty well against Dobbleaire-san, so I count the effort as successful.
I imagine that tomorrow night’s workout will be more of the same, I hope to help Dad out with his test prep a little.
