I slept in a little bit this morning, by the time Dad showed up I was just getting dressed. We arrived and I started in on my kata path… my goal was to do 10 kata to get myself to 100 for the week.
I ended up doing 15 kata, and I’m finding that already my legs are getting stronger and more able to take this kind of punishment. I’m already finding a lot of power to be had when turning from the side thrust kick into the knifehand block.
Also, the full range of motion is helping really get good core tension going. I still need to work on this concept more, but I believe it is coming along.
We did some basics, I spent some of the time helping the others get into and out of the weight vest (two of my Sochins were done with 20 lbs in the weight vest and the 10 lb wrist and ankle weights). We finished off with the three-way kicking drill that is done for the first degree black belt test.
My legs were not necessarily sore this morning, however they were still fatigued. Not in a bad way, but I could tell that I’ve been using them extensively this week. I think they may be a little swollen, because when I get down in knee bends I feel a little more mass around my knees and legs. Its not pain, its just a different feeling than I’m used to.
