Tasha and I have started to get into Tom Cavanaugh’s most recent foray into television since he left Ed behind. Love Monkey itself isn’t necessarily a great show, but there are great things about it.
And I don’t mean Jason Priestly.
The greatness that this show contains is that it circulates around the life of an A&R rep at an independant record label in New York City. As a result, there is some good music already coming off of this show after only two episodes.
The first episode revolved around Tom trying to find undiscovered talent. This leads him to a 16 year old acoustic prodigy named Wayne, who is quite talented. After listening to a few of the songs on this show, we were surprised to see that they didn’t plug an album or an artist at the end.
This made Tasha and I concerned that maybe they were playing the “mash-up a good talent with a marketable face” TV trick. Through some skilled web searches we came to find that Wayne is in fact a guy named Teddy Geiger (myspace profile with streamed song here), who has an album coming out in February.
He’s only got one single on iTunes right now, but he also has a podcast. I’m going to try to withhold and wait for his full album to come out before I buy anything, but I’m looking forward to this with Great Interest.
