As the title says, we had the esteemed honor of training with our very own
It was a laid back one for me today… my first 5 Sochin kata felt very strained and awkward, however after Garls-san convinced me to take a little break and do some Hangetsu and Gankaku with him the rest of my Sochin came together quite well. I ended up the day with 15 Sochin, around 8 Hangetsu, and a few Gankaku and Jitte thrown in for good measure.
After that, we decided to break the trend of the year thus far and spar for awhile. I did fair to middling, I did nothing spectacular and had nothing overtly spectacular happen to me. I did notice that everyone was quite tight (myself included), but my center training is paying off a little because I’m not quite as easily thrown around as I was in the past.
And for some reason, core training has somewhat removed the part of my brain that makes me immediately freak out and bound out of the person’s distance that I am sparring. For a few exchanges today, I actually stood in and “took one to give one.” Only for a few, but its a few more than I had before. 🙂
After the workout, the gang all went to Steak and Shake and shared some colorful conversation before retreating back to our respective homes. It was a really nice time and it was good to get to be with our visiting friends again. Here’s to hoping that it happens more often!
