I got to the dojo early tonight, so I was able to get 15 Sochin in before class. That was… not wise.
I don’t know if it was the rate at which I was doing kata, but I couldn’t get my breath and I was sweating a ton. I probably should’ve gotten more water than I did, but I went ahead and went right into the first class. We did a nice basics review for everyone that is taking their test next week, it was a classic Sensei Brewer fast burn basics workout.
I was whooped by the time the break came. I got some water and felt better, but I was still “the uncooked chicken color.” I decided that by buddy
The second class was a preview of Sensei Brewer’s block for this weekend’s instructor training. It was a focus on using the core of the body in order to chain techniques together. I was having a hard time getting the idea until we got to doing jab/reverse punch combinations against a partner. With a little help, I had some of the best feeling punching techniques that I’ve done in a long time. I found out that my sparring stance was too long and spread out to generate the appropriate hip action needed for a good punching offense. I found out that I can cover a pretty fair amount of distance when I’m able to do this correctly, but it is very infrequent.
It was a good workout, but a hard workout. I’m sure there will be more where that came from.
