Tonight we had the unique situation of class via Nidans, as Sensei Brewer and
I led warmups, if you’ll call them that… I did the same thing that I did last night in Mapleton and had a warmup-free start to class. In parts, we did a total of 100 standing punches, and 100 alternating leg front kicks to warm up. Most everyone had a sweat going, and my good buddy
He had some good input to provide as the class went on, and we had pre-decided to split up the class into kata groups. Unfortunately, we were a bit short staffed, so some of the brown belts got to stand in as “guest instructors” for the colored belts. I got with the purple belts and took them through Heian Godan. Elliot-san was just learning the kata, so we took a nice, one-step-per-count approach. Tina-san is getting ready for next week’s exam, I gave her some pointers on making big technique and breathing properly to accentuate her movements.
The second class was decided to be black belt kata time, so we split off into three major groups: one doing Sochin (with
We got *a lot* of Sochin done during this class. We were going slower because we had Casey-san and Kate-san in the group, by the end they could make it through the kata on their own. We decided to push ourselves during this class, so I came up with the sadistic (or Hartman-esque) idea to five Sochin kata in succession without a breather. That was *HARD*. We finished up the night with 15 Sochin under our belts during the second clsas, combine that with the 5 that I had done before class and that makes for some tired legs.
All-in-all, I think tonight’s workout was good. I know I am tired and really needing some sleep, I may post a little more and then head for bed.
