I set out this weekend to discover an equal to the “Montreal Steak” spices that the cafeteria chef uses on my burgers. I found a very large (Sam’s Club portion) of Canadian Steak Seasoning that looked very close, so I tried it out tonight.
I was right. Man, does this stuff taste good. I have a feeling it will replace my homebrew McDonalds seasoning as the taste of choice to go with my burgers.
Also, this week I test drove Coca-Cola’s new “Tab energy”, an obvious callback to the relatively popular (and unfortunately, not in circulation in our market) Tab cola from the 1980’s. This stuff tastes like a Red Bull with an almost undetectable hint of Tab flavoring. It doesn’t taste bad, but it certainly doesn’t evoke the fond childhood memories of Tab.
It does, however, come through on the energy portion of its name. This has been able to keep me sharp and alert for some somewhat dry technical lectures that I’m taking this week. If I had to rate it on a Diet Coke scale, I would say it brought about 2.5 Diet Cokes worth of alertness in a 10 oz shot.
I think I may try Bawls next to see what all the fuss is about there. The only part I’d be concerned about is walking into my workplace with a beverege named “Bawls”. While a legitimate product name, I don’t know if that would be considered offensive.
Holy crap, the website indicates that my local Quik Pik stocks the stuff. I’m going to get a bottle this weekend and give it a whirl!
