Last week, I beat Doom3. As I previously mentioned, I decided to take a little break before diving back into the deathmatch scene.
This weekend, I made my triumphant return to the virtual battleground. A lot has changed since the days of Half-Life and Quake2, however a lot has stayed the same. There are still issues with lag, whining 12 year olds, and people accusing other people of hacking.
Among the improvements are many things from the mod scene of my day… voting systems built right into the game, a “warm-up” mode which has its origins in the Quake2 modification “Rocket Arena” which still exists in the Doom3 scene, and integrated server finders, lag trackers, and nice heads-up-displays that really add to the deathmatch experience.
Also, there are features for downloading fresh maps, mods, and other improvements right in the game interface. Its a good time to get back in the saddle… I hope my Quake4 deathmatch experience is as good.
