Sensei Quinn joined us yet again today for our Saturday workout. I went ahead and started in my Sochin goal,
The sparring drills were very interesting. We did some variations on the same theme from Thursday night, including some front kicking drills. One drill, where we tried to kick our partner as they were moving backwards and then they immediately tried to kick you, was fun but difficult.
I happened to be across from Sensei Quinn for this drill, and I would do fine (even catching him) on the moving forward kick. I was a lox going back though, at one point Sensei caught me right in the middle of my movement and knocked me over with his kick. I have to keep my center down as I move back, and just “touch and go” with the ball of my foot instead of letting it settle into a full stance. I was a relatively proud of my moving forward front kick… I’m going to continue working on recovering from that appropriately so I can get that “in and out” feeling that I need in my sparring.
As for my physical condition, I woke up this morning with a walnut sized knot in my left hamstring area about four inches from the back of my knee. After Sochin #10 or so it started to work itself out, and by the time the sparring drills came on I was feeling pretty normal. Hopefully this trend continues and my legs are past their destruction point. We’ll find out as the weekend progresses.
