I must say, I started off the evening extremely tired and with not very much desire to train tonight. I felt very “off”, probably because it was not apparent to me until this point that the ring finger is integral to a feeling of strength when punching or blocking. Add to that the fact that when I taped up my finger and attempted to make a fist, my ring finger would remain straight giving the appearence at first glance of The Bird.
All that aside, I got five Sochin done before the first class started. It was a unique case: the rest of the class was all purple belts or higher with the exception of a lone white belt. That white belt got a taste of the Shodan (first degree black belt) test basics. They are hard for even the nidans most of the time, I am amazed that this young girl could do such a good job of keeping up.
Sensei Brewer showed up for the second class and took us through a nice review of Hangetsu and Bassai Sho. I can honestly say this is the first time that I’ve done Bassai Sho in a long time. In fact, I only recall a few instances when I’ve even done part of that kata, let alone the whole thing.
It was a pretty good class, I wish I was feeling a little better so I could enjoy it more. This antibiotic has been doing some mildly annoying things to my digestive system and has been sapping my otherwise bubbling cauldron of youthful energy. As I sit here I am struggling to stay awake, so I suppose my five Sochin and a successful workout should make me feel accomplished. Mostly, I’m just tired now. 🙂
