Many of you have expressed some concern over the lack of update relating to Teddy… he’s doing just fine, aside from having to wear his cone around much of the day.
He has and is being treated for a large infected hot spot on his right hind leg. The vet gave him an antibiotic to help fight infection (the same one that I am on for my finger!), steroid cream to put on the wound, and prednisone to help bolster his immune system.
As previously mentioned, the side effect from his medication is a very limited bladder capacity. That means he’s going outside more often and has had a few more accidents than what is in his normal nature. We’re tapering him off the prednisone (per doctors orders) and he seems to be responding well to treatment. Aside from the cone, of course.
The impact that this strange bathroom schedule has on Tasha and I is interesting… we’ve been taking turns getting up in the middle of the night to take the dog out. This schedule interrupts Tasha’s sleep schedule in a disruptive fashion.
For me, it triggers that same rewarding response that you get when you realize that you’ve woken up naturally three hours before your alarm and get this luxurious “extra” time to sleep. I’ve felt more rested in the morning the past few nights in part to this. The rest I attribute to the natural sleep regulating power that being out in the sunlight and doing manual labor provides.
In summary: Teddy is getting better. He will be with cone for another week and a half or so, hopefully he will be all better by the end. In reparation, Tasha and I got him a stuffed mallard duck from the pet aisle at Krogers. It quacks when you squeeze it and he loves it!
