Here is Sensei Brewer and I performing the first movement of Sochin kata at Sensei’s annual gasshuku.

I spent many of my formative karate years watching Sensei Brewer do Sochin and this picture means a lot to me. If I can learn to perform this kata half as well as Sensei Brewer can I will consider my training a unprecedented success.

We’re very lucky to have instructors like Sensei Brewer and Sensei Hartman to pull us through the hard parts of our training and lead us by such great example.
