Today’s plan was to attempt 100 Sochin again, however it became readily apparent that no one was in the proper condition to accomplish this feat. When I woke up this morning, it felt like someone had stuck a cotton ball down my throat. It hurt to swallow, however I felt pretty healthy otherwise, so I took some allergy/sinus medicine and made my way to the dojo.
When I got there,
I was dissatisfied at not making it a little further, so I decided to suck it up and do some more kata in a fashion that I don’t really recommend… I did 4 relaxed, “walk in the park” style kata in a row, followed by a brief break and then a full speed and full power kata. I did this three more times before I was satisfied, putting me at a grand total of 1851 before the day was out. I briefly considered doing it a few more times to make 50 kata for the day, but decided against it.
I think in the end I had just depleted my energy reserves this week between more working out than normal and lack of sleep. I came home after today’s workout and a bit of errand running and proceeded to sleep for 6 hours. It was the special kind of tired where I lacked the energy to want to remain upright during the car ride home from the bank. That hasn’t happened to me many times in my training career, but it always happens after a long series of workouts, or a few extremely hard workouts.
The last 15 katas of today weren’t dedicated to technical perfection, they were dedicated to perseverance. I have done many “better” kata than those last few, however forcing myself past that mental (and sometimes physical) barrier can mean a lot too.
