Special thanks to Matt H. for helping me get this one done, and to Anthony for couriering the antenna from Bloomington. Tonight I was able to hook up an indoor antenna to my plasma and pick up enough signals to make the effort worthwhile.
The only perplexing signal was that of the ABC affiliate, which is technically the closest to my house and in direct line with the direction of my antenna. It was having an extraordinarily hard time picking up the high def signal, but it doesn’t matter because it is a generally crappy one anyway. We were actually able to pick up more shows than AntennaWeb had listed, which is also a good sign regarding our range.
I was able to watch Deal or No Deal and Heroes in crisp, tasty high def over-the-air tonight which is enough in itself to call this test a success. I believe that I will definitely pursue picking up an antenna when I go to make my order from NewEgg for the rest of the components.
Tasha remarked that she misses not being able to zap the commercials, to which I said “well, with a little money and effort we could capture in high-def on the Myth and be able to do just that.” Her reply: “well, what are you waiting for?”
So I have attained the appropriate WAF (wife approval factor) to go ahead. I think for the sake of fiscal responsibility I will likely wait until February to begin purchasing components, but I am happy I went through this testing process first.
