I let Teddy out last night so he could do his nightly patrol, and I knew something was wrong when I heard what sounded like pigs squealing and Teddy was focused in the middle of the yard.
What could possibly be out there? I thought that maybe he had caught That Darned Cat that has shown up in our yard a lot, but no… this was definitely a group of something.
I shooed Teddy off of the spot, and for some reason a rabbit had elected to have a mess of babies in a hole IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BACK YARD. No trees, no overhang, not even by the post to protect them. Just right in the middle of the yard, little baby rabbits so small that their eyes weren’t even open yet.
Now keep in mind that Teddy has terrorized every rabbit in a tri-block area of our house. I would love to know the rabbit rationale behind dropping a litter in almost the exact center of our wide open circle.
So now I have to walk Teddy on his leash until the nest clears out.
I don’t think he was able to gobble any of them up before I shooed him away, but he was definitely interested at the sound they were making when he uncovered them.
