For the last two workouts we have been focusing on proper basic technique and getting the most out of our shoulders and hips. Last night’s class focused a bit more on body dynamics, rotation, and covering distance.
We spent a large portion of the second class working on distance and timing using sparring drills, it surprises me how many of our mid to upper ranked people are still afraid throw their body into an attack and commit to it fully.
Granted, I dislike bumps and bruises as much as the next guy, however there’s a certain amount of that what comes with the territory. I’d rather get blasted in the short ribs occasionally (thanks,
A funny moment during three to five time sparring last night. I did a front kick and backfist strike combination on Sensei Quinn which worked somewhat well. As we got to the other end of the floor he said “hmmm…” and then launched his attack, whopping me upside the face with a backfist strike of his own. When we got back to the other end of the floor he said “you reminded me of that technique.” Oh good, I’m glad I could be the one.
It was a hard workout last night and I was very tired by the end of it. I’m looking forward to a good workout tomorrow night, it sounds like it will be Just Us Nidans again.
