I love user interfaces!

Today I was browsing around on my lunch hour and came across this article on future interface designs via Slashdot.

I love this stuff. When I was first starting out at college, I wrote up a proposal for my computer graphics course to put together a 3-D Operating System. I had designs on making something similar to this excellent demo from Sun Microsystems.

Unfortunately, I did not have the time in my packed semester to learn how to do 3D development on this level, especially considering that I’m fairly certain that my graphics professor wasn’t up to the task. I always regretted not getting to do that project and studying this area further… seeing some of these technologies makes me wish I would’ve been in on the leading edge of that wave.

I know its never too late to get started, but I don’t have the foggiest idea how to architect something cool like you can see in those links. Maybe some further reading can enlighten me!
