Tonight’s workout was stance, stance, and more stance. The first half of the first class the black belts were assigned to help correct as the rest of the class did basics. For the second half of the class, we worked on deep stance training using front stance, kiba dachi, and fudo dachi. I was the lucky assistant who got to help demonstrate fudo dachi, and my legs were still pretty blasted from Tuesday’s workout so I was shaking all over the place while Sensei explained this stance.
The second class was spent working on the “twitch” body dynamic, but in a different way. We did several drills designed to work on what was in essence a fake-out with the body to mask a coming attack. I was NOT doing this correctly at all, nor was I fully understanding how Sensei wanted me to perform those drills but I gave it a try anyway. We rounded out the night with some three to five time sparring and some one-time sparring drills from the Shodan test. I found out while doing this that I was dragging my rear foot behind me like the hunchback of Notre Dame. I need to use my feet to get mobile and stay that way, I don’t know where I picked up that ridiculously bad habit.
The title of tonight’s post references what happened after class. It appears that one of our blue belts caught some guy stealing her wallet out of her bag. She chased him outside a bit before turning around and informing all of us what had happened, where the black belts mobilized and went on a scum huntin’ party. Unfortunately, the offender was long gone. I have to say… you have to be remarkably brave or remarkably stupid to steal from a karate person’s bag. I’m going to vote for stupid.
Kata: 5 Tekki Nidan (15 Total)
