Tonight was an extraordinarily small class… just four yellow belts and five black belts. Sensei Brewer ran us through a good basic workout working on pull back and hip rotation, and the second class was a great kata workout.
We did Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, and Empi. After each kata, Sensei Brewer showed us examples from a video he found that included Senseis Asai, Yahara, and some of their students to demonstrate the proper execution of the techniques. He said he wanted us just to sit back and watch, taking in the kata from a distance and getting it into our heads what the proper body dynamics were, the timing and the snap.
Then we got to do each kata again. It felt like after watching the video the kata was better, I don’t know if it was the visualization or watching some pretty amazing karate instructors perform the moves.
It was a pretty good workout, I’m looking forward to more soon! 🙂
