Tonight’s workout kicked off with an impromptu Tekki Sandan seminar from Sensei Quinn. He makes the kata look so flowing and natural… its pretty amazing to behold. We did three of them before class started, and I could really feel the Perfect Pushups.
The first class consisted of basics and some basic partner training. I tried to focus on my pullback and relaxing my arms so the soreness would abate. I notice the pullback on my punches was really whistling. My range of motion was a little limited from all the pushups, but it loosened up after the first class.
The second class was basics in sparring stance, followed by some kicking drills that focused on stance mobility, and then onwards to kata. We did all five Heian katas and Tekki Shodan, once by the count and then at our own full speeds.
Thankfully, the soreness in my arms went away almost fully by the end of the class, and the good hard workout seems to have knocked loose the cold that was starting to creep in. I took some Airborne before class and I’m going to go with the Aleve Cold & Sinus and a good night’s sleep tonight to see if I can put it down for the count.
