I did go ahead and make a purchase of an Xbox 360 yesterday! I bought Halo 3 to go along with it, which really takes me back to my old days of first person shooting (FPS) glory. Technology has come a long way… the environment of this game is beautiful, and I can hardly explain to you the utter confusion that washed over me when
You see, when I stopped playing FPS games things like that were vague theories on the fringes of technical reality. To not only see this occur but have it be a complete surprise was a pretty fun time!
Secondly, this console has voice chat on it. Now I have seen voice chat over IP before, as I owned a Microsoft Gamevoice system back in the day. This allowed you to have a “push a button and talk” system much like a walkie talkie. I have a feeling the system that I now own is a major extension of that development team. Its no longer push to talk, it basically just starts picking up when you talk into the microphone, no special hand-holding needed. The Xbox Dashboard makes that whole business very simple, however we were unable to have a “group chat” happen between 3 or more of us. I don’t know if it does this in the dashboard, but it should.
Fun stuff!
