This is the 1983 JKA World Cup – Japan v. Denmark.
My favorite moments from this one:
1:12 – Sensei Yokomichi has this moving in and moving out thing figured out.
1:55 – Sensei Yahara’s roundhouse kick is a beautiful thing.
I’m really enjoying the study of amazing kumite this week! I really want to figure out how to get my body to move quickly when commiting to a technique like Sensei Yokomichi does there… it seems like I get stuck in the mud when I’m going to attack. Sensei Quinn remarked tonight that the trick is getting the hips to react faster and to use them to pull my body backwards after I attack. I’m going to have to try this!
