This week saw the release of Ubuntu’s new build, code-named Hardy Heron. The upgrade process went exceedingly smoothly, with the exception of my Linksys WMP54G wireless card.
This damned thing was a pain when I set up the last build of Ubuntu, and the settings didn’t map over appropriately because they changed the driver for this new build. I just installed a clean build, however it still lacked the packages that I needed to get the thing up and running.
Later tonight or tomorrow I’m going to have to haul the machine downstairs and connect it to my router so I can get the stuff downloaded and configured that I need.
Interestingly, I had a lot of difficulty getting this network card to work in Windows as well. I installed Windows XP Pro and it would detect the card but not load the drivers. It might be time for me to upgrade the network card to something a lot less… frustrating, but I’m not sure I want to throw extra money for upgrades into a 8 year old system.
Ah well… I’ll figure it out eventually.
