Well, when I started work today I had plans to spend an enjoyable few days surfing the couch and getting caught up on some TV. I had cleared all possible meetings and prepared enough stuff to be done in my stead. Unfortunately, that all changed in my 3 o’clock meeting.
You see, one of the projects that I have been working on is going better than planned, and we’re waiting on another group to get our environment set up. Instead of just coasting, our lead architect and I met with the always stylish
and came up with a pretty good extension to our original plan that makes the system much better.
During the afternoon meeting, we decided it was prudent to run the corporate gauntlet and get the appropriate approvals for our plans. Unfortunately, we had to meet with some higher-ups, and they were only available tomorrow and Friday. Since this is one of my top priorities, I felt like I should be there to cover those meetings with the higher-ups, so my vacation is getting postponed until next week.
This still sucks, but I’m going to view it as an investment in not having my projects run late later on. Hopefully someone appreciates it on the other side. In reality, I’m guessing no one will appreciate it and I will have just delayed my vacation due to overinflated self-worth.
Woo-freakin’-hoo.
