This week seemed exceedingly long at the office. I joked it was in part due to the fact that I really had two Fridays (one false Friday on Wednesday when I was supposed to take my vacation, and the real one today). I’m glad its over and I’m looking forward to the oncoming relaxing weekend.
My cousin John is known for agreeing to do seemingly stupid things. Several months ago, we were having a few beers and we were talking about hot foods. I haven’t ever been much of a connoisseur of the spicy, however some Googling led us to the worlds hottest pepper: the bhut jolokia. These little beauties (in pictures, they appear evil and not at all beautiful) are a whopping 855,000 to 1,041,417 scoville units. To contract, the habenero is only 100,000 to 350,000.
I jokingly asked John whether or not he would eat one of these and let me film it for YouTube if I bought one. We had a good laugh and several months went by, but last night I repeated the offer and he again agreed. So Ebay and $7 later, five of these guys are speeding to my house for consumption (by him, I’m not an idiot).
Everyone has been warning me that he could get hurt, however I have seen sauces and plenty of historical evidence to indicate that people live through eating one. They just tend to feel this one “on the way out” as it were. So expect a YouTube video soon, and if you hear a lot of screaming and my laugh wafting over the night air, you’ll know what is happening.
